Sonya,

Thank you for the question. While you aren’t going to get toxic levels next time you get a new block I would just buy a plain white salt block.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Hello, I feed my two mares (17 and 24) 2 oz of Horse Guard daily along with flax seed and also have a free choice mineral supplement block available to them. Is this too much? Should it be just a salt block?
Thank you.

How do I know if I need to use supplements? I don’t want to over supplement.

Thank you for the question. If you are looking for tail growth I would recommend Hoof and Hair Guard. Biotin is a crucial nutrient for hair and hooves. Hoof and Hair Guard contains 100 mg of biotin. The Hoof and Hair Guard is actually designed to be fed with Horse Guard.

We recommend 3 months for any real change in the horse’s mane or tail once starting Hoof and Hair Guard.

As for the selenium levels, if your horse is fairly deficient it takes about 4-5 months for those selenium levels to reach the adequate range again once starting supplementation.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.

Sincerely,

I’ve tried horse guard for the first time recently for a colt 2 yrs old who suddenly lost his tail hairs. Simply drop off to now only a few strands compared to the full tail he used to have. The only thing I can find for this is selenium imbalance . I’ve done the first month with your product and see very little change. Does it need more time? Have you ever heard of this problem. His mane was not affected. Any info would be appreciated.

Has the nutrition in the Horse Guard product been known for supporting a healthy topline? Thank you.
